About the session: Sessions are all on location, usually at your house for newborns. While I can bring a backdrop setup, a lot of the time I just follow children around and see where that takes us. Outdoor sessions are also popular. There are a variety of locations that we can do sessions all across the valley!

I know that children don't walk around with a smile on their face 24 hours a day, so I am not all about the smiles. Sometimes it is that little smirk or that gaze out the window that makes you say 'That is my child'.

Most sessions average about one hour. Newborns sometimes extend into the two and three hour mark. This time frame encourages snack time and other breaks, I want to keep your child comfortable. I do not bring any lighting with me, so I work with what the sun gives me. I will gladly work with you on something that will work for everyone. Outdoor sessions are best in the late evening before the sun goes down...such beautiful light!

What to wear - Clothing is an important factor in a portrait. Keep it simple, keep it comfortable for your child. I love having your child stay barefoot, and I think they like it too! You can never go wrong with denim! Khaki bottoms are another casual look. I just ask that there not be any logos or distracting patterns on the clothing, we want the focus to be on your child, not what they are wearing. Sometimes the bold outfits can make for a fun part of the session though, so just let me know what you are thinking, and we can go from there. If there is more than one child, please keep in mind the above suggestions, and while they don't have to match, if they wore the same color tone it would make for a nicer portrait. Please visit my blog at www.jennsimblog.com for my series 'What to Wear' on Wednesdays every week!

Proofs and Ordering - All indoor portraits are done in black and white and/or a soft color. Outdoor sessions have a choice of black and white or a variety of color options. About 10-20 days after your session, we will make a second appointment to view your photos for ordering. During this appointment, please make sure that anyone who might want to order is there, as the proofs do not stay with you. I will be there to answer any questions you have and will bring different sample portraits to help you find just the right size. Your final portrait order will be ready within two to three weeks.
